Agent builds run on Windows VMs
bentcorner let the agents build and test over SSH on WSL in remote Windows VMs. The Mac is no longer used for those build runs.
Done with Valgfri agentModerate
What was done
On 18 October 2026 bentcorner writes that work gives him a Mac and remote Windows VMs. He has stopped using the Mac for the agents' builds and tests. He gives them SSH into WSL instances. The setup is ad hoc. The agents still need to pull, or he keeps the main enlistment up to date himself. He is considering containers or GitHub Actions, but says it is good enough for now. Previously the agents started builds in the middle of a meeting, and the video stream dropped until he killed everything.
How it went
He is happy with how it is working so far. He does not give a count of builds, or of meetings without interruption.
Worth knowing
The agent is not named. He has not moved the setup to containers. The comment does not say the video has stopped dropping.
How to do it
- Give the agent SSH only to [vm], not to the machine you use in meetings.
- Keep the main code up to date, or let the agent pull it there.
- Stop the build if it starts knocking out other programs.
Try it with Valgfri agent
With [tool], build and test [project] on [vm] over SSH. Do not build on the machine I use in meetings. Do not deploy until I say yes.
Replace text in brackets with your own.
Done when. The build is running on the VM you named, and the meeting machine has not been used.
Safety rule. The agent does not build on the meeting machine and does not deploy. You stop it if something else drops.
