Have the documents ready, and read the answer critically before you use it.
This is a way of working from the editors, not advice from Skatteetaten, NAV, Altinn or an accountant. Check figures, deadlines and decisions against the original.
How to do it
- 1
Copy the message from Altinn. Remove your national identity number, the organisation number if you do not want to share it, and customer names.
- 2
Note the figures from the accounts for the period beside it: turnover, output VAT and input VAT, as they appear in the report.
- 3
Ask the assistant to explain what the message asks you to do, in everyday words, and which VAT-return fields your figures usually belong in.
- 4
Ask for a reconciliation list: which figure should match which report. Where a rate or a line cannot be decided from what you pasted, it should say so, not guess.
- 5
Go back to Altinn and fill in the form yourself. If something does not match, stop and ask an accountant or Skatteetaten.
Example prompt
Example prompt
I have a message in Altinn about Norwegian VAT. I want to check the VAT return before I submit it. Here is the message and the figures from the accounts, without customer names: [Paste the message] [Paste the figures] Explain what the message asks me to do, and which fields the figures usually belong in. Make a reconciliation list. Do not calculate a new amount if you have to guess a rate or a line. Write «check with an accountant or Skatteetaten» where you are unsure.
