What was done
On 28 July 2023 Fawzi Ammache writes in Year 2049 that he asked ChatGPT to act as his chef and make a 5-day meal plan, as a table. The preferences were Lebanese, Mexican and Thai food, no fish or pork, eggs for breakfast, and avoid fried or processed food. The first draft stayed inside those cuisines. He asked for more variety. Then he asked for a recipe for each meal, as a table. With the Instacart plugin he asked for a shopping list. The link opens a tab with the items loaded, ready for checkout. He writes that you should check the ingredients, remove what you already have, adjust quantities and switch brands. The plugin requires ChatGPT Plus, which he writes costs $20/month, with GPT-4 and plugins enabled. Without the plugin, ChatGPT can still sort a shopping list by aisle.
How it went
He got a meal plan, recipes and a list ready for checkout. He does not write that an order was placed or delivered.
Worth knowing
The first plan was too narrow until he asked again. The dishes themselves are in images, not in the text that was fetched. He does not confirm a purchase.
How to do it
- Ask ChatGPT for a 5-day meal plan from [preferences].
- Ask for the recipes, and then a shopping list.
- Check the items and remove what you have, before you pay.
Try it with ChatGPT
Make a 5-day meal plan for [person] with these limits: [preferences]. Then make a shopping list. Do not pay and do not place the Instacart order until I say yes.
Replace text in brackets with your own.
Done when. The list has been read against what you have at home, and no order has been placed unless you said yes.
Safety rule. ChatGPT does not pay and does not place the order. You check the items and you pay.
