The books tidied, nothing written without approval
Tom Eberle let an Opus agent tidy the French accounting program Dougs. Uncategorised entries went from 183 to 4 in one afternoon. Nothing was written until he approved the plan.

What was done
On 14 October 2026 Tom Eberle writes that Dougs had no public API, MCP or CLI. One Opus agent built a command line, another reviewed every change. He reports 245 tests and about 30 hours from idea to npm. His X profile says Paris. Before the CLI, the agents used Python scripts and a Chrome session cookie that expired every few weeks.
How it went
On the real books, in one afternoon: uncategorised entries from 183 to 4, 22 missing invoices pulled from Gmail and attached, about 60 changes written to Dougs, and 3 overdue VAT returns found. Before a VAT claim the agent went through 34 invoices from Meta, Claude, Google Cloud and Hostinger and fixed those booked with French VAT even though the invoice said reverse charge.
Worth knowing
Nothing reaches Dougs until he approves the plan. Months with a filed VAT return are left alone. The agent does not file the VAT return and does not replace the accountant. The password goes only to Dougs. The CLI is unofficial and not affiliated with Dougs. Check the original. This is not advice from an accountant.
How to do it
- Ask the agent to read the books and write a plan. It should not write until you have agreed to the plan.
- Ask it to fetch invoices from the inbox you give read access to, match them to the bank line by amount, date and vendor, and show the list before anything is uploaded.
- Review each change. Do not let the agent file the VAT return. Leave the filing to the accountant.
Try it with Claude
Read [accounting system] with [access]. Make a plan for uncategorised entries and missing documents in [period]. Fetch documents from [inbox] and match them to the bank line by amount, date and vendor. Show the list. Write nothing until I approve. Do not file [return to the authority].
Replace text in brackets with your own.
Done when. You have approved or rejected each proposal, and the agent has not filed any return.
Safety rule. Passwords and keys go only to the accounting system. Nothing is written until you have approved the plan.
