Claude tagged the transactions, uncertain ones stayed in a queue
u/michaeldpj replaced QuickBooks at 38 dollars a month and Simplifi at 68 dollars a year with a local app. Claude tags transactions from an MCP feed. Uncertain items wait in a queue. The feed costs sixty dollars a year. QuickBooks and Simplifi were about 524 dollars together.

What was done
On 24 June 2026 u/michaeldpj writes that he runs a one-person LLC and files a Schedule C. QuickBooks cost 38 dollars a month after someone else set it up. Quicken Simplifi cost 68 dollars a year for the personal side. He opened ChatGPT, asked it to act as a senior accounting consultant and make a starting plan for something simpler than QuickBooks. The plan went to Claude, which turned the sketch into an implementation plan. Codex pointed out gaps. The notes went back to Claude's UltraPlan. A few rounds over a couple of hours, until little new came back. He lost the original ChatGPT prompt. The app runs on his Mac, with no cloud account. Transactions come in through MCP. Claude tags each one. Whatever it is unsure about sits in a queue for him. When he fixes one item, a rule is saved, so the same question does not return every month. It cleared a couple thousand transactions without asking him. Business expenses go onto Schedule C lines. Personal money is kept separate. It took two days, including a sideloaded Android app for the dashboard. The only thing he pays for now is the feed, sixty dollars a year. QuickBooks and Simplifi were about 524 dollars together.
How it went
A couple thousand transactions were tagged without a question. Uncertain items stayed in the queue. He pays sixty dollars a year for the feed. About 524 dollars is the comparison with QuickBooks and Simplifi.
Worth knowing
He writes himself that he is not an accountant. The post does not say a tax return was filed. A couple thousand and about 524 dollars are his wording. The original ChatGPT prompt is lost. Check the original. This is not tax advice.
How to do it
- Ask for a plan first, and let another pass point out gaps before anything is coded.
- Let tagging write uncertain items to a queue, not to a finished line.
- Correct one item yourself if the rule is to be saved. Do not file a return from the queue.
Try it with Claude
Tag [transaction] against [line]. Put uncertain items in a queue. Do not book an uncertain item, and do not file anything, until I say yes.
Replace text in brackets with your own.
Done when. The queue has been read, and nothing has been filed without a yes.
Safety rule. No booking of uncertain items and no filing until you have said yes.
