Two sales after the agent changed course

u/jdrolls gave an agent on OpenClaw/Claude a small budget and 60 days. It switched from a course to a setup service, and on day 15 there were two sales.

What was done

On 11 February 2026 u/jdrolls writes in r/SideProject that on 27 January he gave an agent running on OpenClaw/Claude a small budget and 60 days to build a profitable online business, with no hand-holding. On days 1-5 it explored business models, registered a domain, built a website and started a 58,000-word guide it decided to sell. On days 6-11 there were posts on Reddit, Twitter and LinkedIn, 400+ unique visitors and zero sales. On day 12 it switched from a course to selling agent setup, and the guide became free. On day 13 it built a free health-check tool, a 5-day email course and moved to organic outreach. On day 14 there were 695 pageviews, and two people each spent 20-45 minutes on the free guide. On day 15 he woke to two sales, with revenue of over six hundred bucks. Reddit ads got exactly 0 conversions, with 35 clicks, through a quiz that sold nothing. Both paying customers came from organic Reddit posts. By day 15 the main agent had 4 sub-agents, for social engagement, analytics, customer monitoring and creative work. A CORS bug made the email form fail silently for a week, with 800+ visitors and 0 email captures, until a server-side proxy fixed it.

How it went

The agent is fulfilling the two orders. The 60-day clock is still running, with 45 days left. He did not direct the change of course.

Worth knowing

Revenue is given as over six hundred bucks, not an exact amount. The customers and the domain are not named. The ads got exactly 0 conversions. Check the original.

How to do it

  1. Put a budget and a deadline in the text. Ask the agent to propose a plan before it registers anything.
  2. Read the traffic and the sales before it changes the offer. Do not let it run ads unless you see the figure.
  3. Do not register a domain, do not deploy and do not pay for an ad until you say yes.

Try it with OpenClaw

You have [budget] and [deadline] to propose an online business. Do not register a domain, do not deploy, do not send outreach and do not pay for ads until I say yes. Show the figures you rely on.

Replace text in brackets with your own.

Done when. You have read the proposal and the figures, and nothing has been registered, deployed or paid unless you said yes.

Safety rule. No registration, deployment, sending or payment happens until you say yes.

  • The enquiry becomes a task, the reply goes through Telegram

Toma built an n8n setup for customer enquiries. It creates a ClickUp task and notifies him on Telegram. He replies there himself. The agent can send email, update the status or close the thread from his reply.

  • One tenant message became two jobs

The author had an agent read tenant messages, split them by trade and send the jobs. It handles about two hundred messages a month and saves the operations manager close to fifteen hours a week. For a shop with a fixed reorder at 200 units he did not use an agent.
